Looking To The Past

My love for old, rare books is actually more of an addiction, kind of a cheap addiction because I rummage through garage sales to find the best. This book is from 1885 and is called The Growing World, it is an illustrated book of everything from poetry, mathematics, science, and technology. To look back and see what they thought was truth is astonishing. It makes me think how proud these people must have been to create a book that would enlighten so many and bring excitement and hope to a burgeoning generation. To look at this book now, much of the information seems silly and so obviously wrong that we laugh at the claims it chose to make. Yet we are doing the very same thing today, we stand on our soap boxes and exclaim how right we are when in just a few years we will laugh at our ignorance. Maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to make judgements or statements that tell of a certain way to do things. We just might possibly be wrong, or even right, but I think either way we should take an extra moment to step back. Seth Godin talked about this on his blog and made me think about writing this post.
